LOOK… I’m not going to give you a total and utter B.S., pink and fluffy, this is how to ‘change overnight’ success formula. Success isn’t a destination, it’s a journey!
Earl Nightingale, founder of the Nightingale Conant personal development company, describes it like this…
Success is the progressive realisation of a worthy goal or ideal.
Goal Setting
Do you have goals? If not, let’s be blunt about this… where the hell are you going? How can you possibly score a touchdown without knowing where the end zone is? How do you arrive somewhere without knowing where the destination is? What… you think this is funny? No, seriously, this is absolutely CRAZY… and sooooo many people do it all the time and wonder why they’re not getting the results they desire!
If you do the things you’ve always done, you’ll get the things you’ve always got!
Seems obvious, right?
So why do so many people expect to get to where they want to go without knowing where it is that they want to go to? OK, that sounds like I’m speaking in riddles… but hear me out for a second… imagine the man who arrives at the train station tentatively asking the ticket attendant, “could I have a ticket please ma’am?” The confused attendant replies, “where would you like to go sir?” The man insists “I don’t know.”

The result is going to be no ticket! Life’s the same… it gives us clues in how to approach goal setting and accomplishment.
You have to be committed to surrender to the journey or process. Happiness can only be experienced in the present, so surrender to the fact that success and happiness lies in the process of pursuing worthy goals or ideals, then get busy about the business of creating the results and life of your dreams.
Remember that…
Action Gets Results!
ACTION POINT: Get a notepad and pen now and start scribbling furiously all the goals that you desire to achieve in the long term, mid term and short term.
State them using positive language, ensure they are measurable, trackable and include a [kick butt challenge yourself] deadline.
Make sure you include an action plan toward their accomplishment and commit to the process.
This goal setting process has no room for ambiguity or indecision.

Dear Wayne,
This is a very well written article. It seems as if you have poured your heart in to it. Your analogy of the buying ticket without a destination has given me a lot of ideas.
Having a vision for life is very important breaking it down in to chunks of goals enables you to achieve more.
Best regards,

I am reading Awaken The Giant Within by Anthony Robbins where he challenges the reader to set Personal, Career, Toy and Contribution goals for the year ahead – very invigorating! In fact I already set my year’s goal a month ago as I am just staring an Open Uni degree so I want my goals to tie in with that. Nothing flash, just weight loss & blogs I want to set up, some travel, write some music – little things which I will enjoy. My yearly goal always sit within the framework of my life goals which dictate whom I wish to become. Everything can be accomplished little by little. Seeing a big picture helps one to endure the petty daily annoyances with equanamity. :)

Thanks for putting this out. Goals give us direction. They tell us where we should go and those people who set goals are not only more successful, they are also happier and more confident with their life.
