The Drawbacks of Developing a Business Blog

Blogging is picking up fast as businesses begin to recognize its benefits. It has emerged an able tool to share knowledge. Business blogs can serve the preferred marketing platform connecting clients and customers. However, business blogs have their limitations.

The flip side of business blogging

Businesses can chose blogging to create traffic and connect to potential customers. Being fast and easy, blogging can be an economical alternative saving resources on learning web html or hiring a developer.

Knowing the downside of a strategy can better prepare you for the days when things are unfavorable and not dependable. Blogging may save resources by not designing web pages, but it does not provide generous e-commerce solutions (which can come with web pages) and can be time-consuming. Blogs can make an organization seem disorganized with multiple tones and opinions. An average consumer would prefer to engage in an organization where he/she can expect coherence.

Look before you leap

Although the limitations to corporate blogging are not overwhelming, you would certainly want to know potential ills which could damage your business health. Here are a few drawbacks of developing a business blog.

1) Delayed outcomes

Blogs can be easy to start but difficult to maintain. Blogging does not produce favorable outcomes which many other strategies can deliver. Wanting results overnight can be impractical with blogging. Business blogs would possibly suffice those who can have loads of patience to wait for the right time to reap the harvest.

You need to develop an ongoing inventory of interesting and useful information to attract readers (or potential customers). In order to build a blog which can attract a lot of traffic and yield income, you have got to continually create worthy content. Initial days can be particularly demanding, as there can be little interest from readers’ end. You need to effort much to compose and post to the platform.

2) Persistence and commitment

Coherent writing can be difficult and time-consuming, making blogs cheap yet expensive deals. And more than creating a blog, you need to constantly update it to ensure there are no damaging consequences to the reputation of your organization.

Developing a business blog can demand consistent and unrelenting inputs and efforts. In order that you have a deep rooted blogging platform, you need to develop loyal readers who can make your blog an effective marketing platform. Building blog is an ongoing process and requires constant resources, whether in the form of quality content or consistent follow ups.

3) Upsetting consequences

When everything seems turning just right, upsetting outcomes may downturn your calculations. Unlike other marketing media, like e-mail and website, business blogs may not score high on efficiency when publishing information.

In traditional marketing, organizations measure marketing capabilities by seeing how many products they sell after launching an ad campaign. However, this is a limitation in blogging. You can measure traffic, but you cannot measure mind share; all traffic does not amount to business (and income).

There are multiple issues which companies may want to deal with. There are concerns regarding monitoring the blogosphere and the need to have guidelines for official corporate blogs. Another issue can be employees personally blogging although they identify themselves as being representatives of their company. Online journals can potentially threaten enterprise confidentiality and integrity.

There is even a risk that an inappropriate (or unacceptable) comment could fall prey to media or dissatisfied investors.

Developing a business blog can pose many dangers to a business domain. The threat goes beyond dealing with poorly written corporate blogs looking fake or incompetent. However, if you are willing to take risks, you can make the difference between an effective blog and one which becomes controversial for the bad.

Delayed outcomes should be expected. With blogging, learn to engage oneself to your readers. The more you communicate the more the reader gets interested.

Great article Diana. T’was a good read for me.

I think one of the key things for businesses who want to have a blog is essentially commitment.

If you’re going to have one update it regularly, doesn’t have to be daily but at least once a week.

There are too many websites online with blog sections that haven’t had a new post for years. This can have a negative effect on the company too as potential customers might not think they are still trading!

These are good points that you have shared. Completely agree with you on these points. Blogging cannot yield result in a short time, one has to be patience with it. Writing good content regularly, do guest blogging can be a good thing.

You are correct, business blogging comes with a lot of drawbacks. With the many business activities a business person has to deal with every day adding a blog to it is brings more work. However, developing a plan from the start will greatly help.

Besides, outsourcing some of the operations, like content creation and blog marketing could be of help.
